Pap takes the Cup!

For the third time Germany was looking for its champion…

…and found it for the second time in a Belgian. After Foududonjon in 2009 and Mayo66 in 2010, Pap was able to seize the cup in 2011. Like every previous year, the tournament took place at the FeenCon in Bonn. As a result, participanges got to see some costumes and a medieval tent camp as well as a lot of board gaming and role playing.

16 players answered the call and came to the tournament – amongst them five Belgians and three Frenchmen. Notably many players had won other big tournaments, so the overall quality of players was pretty high.

The format played was a special variant of Full Hazard Equal Forces: Before each round, rooms, characters and objects were drawn at random (with some minor restrictions) and were used in all games. The material was drawn from all the expansions that have been published in German (Basic game, Paladins & Dragons, Forces of Darkness and Prison). Things that had been drawn in one round were not used for the rest of the tournament, meaning that in the end everything had been used once.

The first round matchups were determined randomly, but no players from the same region would face each other. Thus, a matchup of two favorites happened in the first round, which Mayo won against Sherinford.

Thief
Wizard
Undead Dragon
Mummy

Pap – Puk 6:3
SmokinAce – Olivier 5:4
Dennis – McGregus – 4:2
ThreeWishes – Mutuf 5:2
Sherinford – Senksis 5:0
Jejam – Slydog 5:1
Cholie – Haaken 5:4

After the third round Bone had risen to the first place, followed by Pap and SmokinAce. But due to his scoring total SmokinAce had no realistic chances for the title. This meant there was a real finale in the last round.

Characters
Golem
Wall-Walker
Vampire
Angel of Light
Naga
Specter

Objects

Matches

Pap – Bone 5:2
Mayo66 – SmokinAce 5:1
Puk – Sherinford 5:4
ThreeWishes – Dennis 5:3
Olivier – McGregus 5:3
Senksis – Jejam 5:2
Mutuf – Haaken 5:4
Cholie – Slydog 5:1

Pap was a clear winner of the tournament and a worthy champion, as he had proven before at the French Championship 2010. However, German players aren’t really disappointed that they couldn’t keep the cup in their own country, because in November they will get the chance for revenge at the Belgian Championship.
